Be Prepared for Tax Season – 2016

For the past two decades, the Internal Revenue Service has provided libraries with tax forms that we, in turn, make available to the public.  As you may remember, we had a very limited number of tax forms last year, and sadly we will be getting even less this year.

We do not know exactly at this time what forms we will be receiving.

  • The IRS.gov website will have downloadable forms and our staff can help you obtain them.  We will provide three free pages and charge $.10 per page for additional copies.

The IRS will mail up to 10 forms and instructions to your home by filling out a form at: IRS.gov/orderforms.  As a test, I ordered some to be sent to my home and it took about 10 days to receive them.

You can also call 1-800-829-3676 to order forms by phone.  My experiment in calling this number was not a success, as I gave up after 30 minutes on hold.  Yikes!

We will have state and local forms/instructions available, as usual.

Also, please remember that the Baldwin Library offers free AARP Tax Aide on Thursdays, from 10 – 2 p.m., beginning February 11th through April 14th.  The volunteers will help those with simple tax forms and ask that you bring last year’s completed forms.

Just let us know what forms you need and our staff will help you to avoid having ‘a taxing time’.
