This summer’s reading theme is “Build a Better World,” and at the Baldwin Borough Public Library, we’re taking that literally! We are excited to announce that children will have an opportunity, all summer long, to help “build a better world” in their own community simply by reading! For each 10 books read to them (pre-readers), or 1 hour read on their own (independent readers), children will receive a token which they will enter into a charitable organization box of their choosing. The 3 organizations are: Animal Friends, Baldwin Kiwanis Club – PA District and Baldwin Community Food Pantry. We will tally the tokens at the end of the summer, and each organization will receive a monetary donation from our library, with the amount based on token count, as our way of giving back.
Children will also receive a raffle ticket for each 10 books read to them (pre-readers), or 1 hour read on their own (independent readers) for a chance to win end-of-summer-reading prizes. Our displays are filled with prize giveaways, so the more children read, the more tickets they earn! They can even earn extra tickets for reading nonfiction!
Feedback from children and caregivers has been 100% positive, that they are thrilled to be able to help others just by reading and that their child is feeling great about being able to give back. If your child hasn’t registered for summer reading yet, no worries! Just stop in any day and register, and help us Build a Better World!
