On average, we hold approximately 150 storytimes in a year, three storytimes per week: one for babies, one for toddlers and one for preschoolers. We get to know our storytime groups, we welcome new faces and families, and watch all of these children grow and become part of our library family. But perhaps no storytime that we’ve held to date will be as special or as meaningful as the ones to be held this week. We were contacted in February by an anonymous donor, stating that they had purchased 30 copies of Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton in memory of 16-month-old Scarlett Lillian because it was her favorite book. Scarlett’s parents have set up a Facebook page called Be the Sunshine, so that the light and love that Scarlett brought to others can be paid forward through random acts of kindness, as was evident by our anonymous book donor. We are very grateful that our library was chosen to honor Scarlett in such a special way, and each child in attendance at our March 21 and 23 storytimes (10:30 am) will receive a copy of Barnyard Dance. We welcome you to attend and then pay this kindness forward. We also invite you to “like” our Baldwin Borough Public Library Kids & Teens Facebook page, as we’ll be posting pictures from our storytimes. We are honored to be a part of this very special random act of kindness.
